Today’s communication technology makes it easier than ever for citizens to speak directly to their government officials. So why is it that only 15% of citizens feel like they have a say in what goes on?

Utilizing Technology

The government does not effectively engage the people in its activities. I believe that increasing public involvement will require the utilization of diverse communication technologies.  With tools ranging from traditional print to social media, productive dialogue and information exchange should be more accessible than ever.

Reach out

It is the voice of the people that drives a Representative Democracy. But listening without action widens the communication gap and erodes trust. The government must actively reach out to the people to seek input, share policy information, report financial data, etc. It is crucial to respond to the concerns of citizens promptly, clearly, and concisely.

Trust

Public trust is at an all-time low.  To regain that trust, the government must engage in an open, authentic, and respectful dialogue with its citizens on every available platform.  Let’s work and grow together by expanding the conversation.
